Everything has just grown exponentially.

I'm Char I am the UMD Greenhouse Manager here in the lower greenhouse.

I learned about the position being open through a friend of mine.

she kind of led me here, and I was just ready for a change.

Working in a retail greenhouses can be pretty taxing.

So I was ready for something a little more, you know, slower pace.

She has a wealth of knowledge about about plants she has a strong, strong understanding of the curation that happens in commercial greenhouses.

The purpose behind having the greenhouse is to have a large diversity of plants that students can come down and see that they normally, that they wouldn't normally see in northern Minnesota.

We have a lot of tropical plants in here.

Each plant I think of as an individual.

They each have their own waterin The windows open in the summer.

I mean, it does get pretty hot in here.

It's glass windows.

We have shade cloth that we put up, which helps a little bit, but we don't have any kind of cooling system in here.

The students that come in, they just love it here.

And and the faculty has been very warm and welcoming They come down here to learn about plant diversity.

We also take a lot of plants up to the classroom for them to experiment on when they're when they're in the class.

So it's really an educational greenhouse, not only for our students but then also for the community.

It's open to the public, eight to four.

Seeing the students come in and their faces light up, and being able to have that like moment of, of like they can just rest and relax and chill out for a minute The Slice from PBS North.
